You'll find a great variety - in both time and space - of railway pictures in Phil Richards' Flickr stream. I appreciate his preference for smaller branch lines. This 1993 picture of a DR rail bus sitting in Kalbe (Minde) (Sachsen-Anhalt) station is a great example.
